4 Dec 2007 Flinders Trip

Have just got back from a 6 day excursion to Flinders Reef, with regular client Lyle Potgeiter. We caught 3 marlin for the trip and raised a couple of others which was good for the amount of time spent marlin fishing. Alot of time was spent catching and getting smashed by the prolific schools of Dogtooth Tuna out there. Another highlight was an aftternoon spent visiting the weather station on the sand cay at Flinders.

10 Nov 2007 Into Cairns

Fish till lunchtime only no bites then run into Cairns. Will be in port for several days.

9 Nov 2007 On the move

Left #10 early trolling lures south caught a small fish of Cruiser Pass for Steve on the 80lb stand-up. Catch another small black of Escape for Peter, then run to Linden Bank to finish afternoon with baits. Catch only bite a lively 600pd black on the 80lb stand-up for Peter.

8 Nov 2007 2 today

Fished same spot on #10 with a 500lb released for Rob and a 200lb on 80lb stand-up released for Paul. Miss another nice fish on late bite.

7 Nov 2007 No luck

On #10 again with 4 bites, 2 from big fish but no hook ups today.

6 Nov 2007 700lb Rob Cambell

Start of new charter with anglers, Steve Pearce, Peter Onley, Paul Bakker, and Rob Campbell onboard. Made our way to #10 Ribbon reef where we had 2 bites from 700lb fish with 1 released for Rob.

0 from 2 on small fish and into cooktown for a day of tomorrow.

Mark Jones caught a 700Lb Black on 3rd Nov at #3 Ribbon Reef and Charlie King Released a sailfish while Baitfishing in the morning. 4th Nov 0-2 on small fish.5th Nov in port for the day. 

3 Nov 2007 12 yr old gets 300lbs first fish

1st november on #3 ribbon reef  Mark Jones tagged a 100lb Black Marlin, the only fish for the day

2nd November on #2 ribbon reef .

31 Oct 2007 update

Yesterday Candace released 2 fish 1 at 200lb on 50lb and another fish estimated 750lb on 50lb with fight time of 1hour and a half.                                                                      Last day with Jay and Candace Meyer. Finished with 1 from 3 today Candace released a 200pd black on 50lb line.

30 Oct 2007 Weekend

On the weekend Candace had ! Black Marlin 175lb on 50lb line tagged on #10 ribbon reef.

Yesterday Candace tagged a 300lb Black Marlin on 50lb line about 20 Mile out off the #5 Ribbon reef.

24 Oct 2007 the one that got away

The team had a big one on today at #9 Ribbon Reef and missed it reckon it was 850lbs or more.

23 Oct 2007 Going for a record

Still fishing at #6 Ribbon Reef Candace is using 50lb line aiming for a new world record.

Today saw a few and Candace Meyer managed a 100lb Black Marlin on 50lb line after what sounds to have been  a lively night with the Kanahoee team.

Day three of Jay and Candice Meyer of Board and Candice has already caught a 150lb Black Marlin on the #6 Ribbon Reef.  Have seen 5 there and hope to catch more today.

20 Oct 2007 Kanahoee wins Lizard Island Tournament

A stroke of luck today as the Kanahoee boy win the Lizard Island tournament even though they lost 3 at the #10 ribbon reef again today.

Congrats to Captain Dave Pemberton Decky's Murray Finlayson and Wade Alleyn and Anglers Ralph Czabayski and Greg Gilbert on the Win.

Ralph Czabayski had two 1 Black Marlin 150lb and 1Black Marlin 200lb both bottom of #10 Ribbon Reef.

Unfortunetly missed 2 others.  Leading only by one and last day Saturday

Fishing the #10 Ribbon Reef the Kanahoee team were unsuccessful yesterday losing 3 small blacks,  But Back in the game again:

Friday - Ralph once again 500 lb Black Marlin this time at the number 2 Ribbon Reef.

Greg Gilbert caught a 200lb Black Marlin on the number 2 Ribbon Reef. Saw one other that day.

10 Oct 2007 Update

We have made Cooktown without any problems. Had good baitfishing on the way north and can't wait to get out there tomorrow and start catching the big ones the reef grapevine tells us are out there.

27 Sep 2007 Update

The Kanahoee is back in the water underway with sea trials today and looking good to leave any day from tomorrow for cairns. For the Innisfail light tackle tournament we did not have the best luck turning bites into tags, finishing with one qualifying sailfish. Well done to Harry, captain Corey and the rest of the team on Mauna Kea for the tournament victory. Another well run tournament see you next year at innisfail 2008.

19 Sep 2007 update

Kanahoee is currently out of the water with engine problems, but the news is good we will be back in action early next week. We will fish the Innisfail light tackle tournament this weekend onboard the Sea Baby IV.

10 Sep 2007 Townsville tournament

In the recently completed townsville light tackle tournament, fished in some fairly ordinary conditions at times we finished in second place with 4 marlin tags. Congratulations to Chris and Lee our team for the week. Winning team was Reel Chase with 4 marlin and 2 sailfish tags.

30 Jul 2007 Update end of july

We finished our last charter for the month yesterday in fine style by catching a 25kg sailfish on 10kg spinning tackle while at anchor, bottom fishing.Also did all right on target species with some nice coral trout landed alongside a triplr strike of cobia. We will be doing annual maintanence for the next week in preperation for the upcoming marlin season.

The weather has cleared up and the spanish mackeral are biting well around the reefs also the baby blacks are starting to turn up with several lost lately including 1 to ourselves on our only trip to Cape Bowling Green last week.

27 Nov 2006 update

Just arrived back in cairns after 5 days fishing out of lizard island lodge, we caught 4 marlin and spent a day light tackle fishing catching a wide variety of fish for our russian clients.

Just got in from 6 days mothershipping the highlight of the trip was a 800lb black for angler Anthony Genocchio, Father Jim caught 2 marlin and partner Jamie caught her first marlin also.

Finished a 5 day trip yesterday with a est 950lb released at the top of ribbon 6 for John Frearson visiting from Miami also caught a 850lb for wife Renee 2 days earlier on ribbon 5, 1 of 3 for that day.

Caught 3 small marlin of St Crispin reef yesterday for three 16 year old boys from melbourne.

Just finished 5 days with Don Tyson and freinds caught 7 marlin in the 250 pd to 500 pd range.

Caught two yesterday, one small one and one about 600 lb also raised a big one but no bite. Caught two small ones the day before.

23 Oct 2006 Update

Finished Lizard Is tournament with 5 releases ( one estimated at 1000lb ). This gave us 5th place out of 47 boats. We also won a daily prize for the most fish tagged on day 2 with 3 releases.  Tenacious won with 8 tags, a great result for them back to back wins.

The day before the tournament we recovered our camera of an Island 14 miles west of Lizard Island. Still waiting to to see if we got any footage.

10 Oct 2006 Update

Have caught 8 marlin since last update and have missed plenty of other bites from small fish. We attached a camera to a marlin last week as part of research development our client is working on, the camera has popped of and has been tracked over several days and is now inside the reef and will hopefully be recovered soon.

1 Oct 2006 Heavy Tackle Update

Left Cairns late morning, fished our way north from Linden bank, caught a 250lb and 400lb from two bites.Finished day at St Crispins.

Day trip out of Cairns today, jumped 1 off and raised another couple. Most boats seeing a few fish but not many caught. Should be good fishing when they start biting.

14 Sep 2006 Light Tackle

Kanahoee recently fished the Townsville tournament and ended up winning the champions mining team by tagging 7 blacks and 1 sailfish. Then it was to port Hinchinbrook where we fished the 3 day annual event and finished 3rd tagging 3 blacks. 

13 Feb 2006 Blue Marlin found off Myrmidon Reef

Kanahoee with a ateam of locals from Townsville Gamefishing Club headed to Myrmidon Reef on Friday afternoon to fish the Townsville Club monthly competition and the Queensland All Ports competition.  All Saturday was spent fishing for Yellowfin Tuna, with heaps being hooked, but getting them to the boat before the sharks got them proved much more of a Challenge.  Consequently 2 large sharks were caught after taking hooked Tuna.  ian Richardson fought a shark estimated at around 400-500lb for two hours on 15kg line.  At the end of the day we had successfully tagged and released 5 yellowfin tuna and eight year old Kezia Drane caught another that was disqualified when she needed help getting the rod out of the holder.

The next day was quite rough and we were going after Marlin.  Capt Dave chose to work the cockpit whilst Rod Matheson skippered.  A 350lb Blue Marlin was successfully tagged from 3 strikes and 2 hookups.  The fight took Brenda Walls over 2 hours on standup 50lb tackle to get to the boat.  Unfortunately the long fight meant the boat missed the weigh in for the Club competition, but managed to score 7000 points for the Club in the All Ports Competition.

13 Jan 2006 Successful trip to Myrmidon Reef

Kanahoee returned from a great trip to Myrmidon Reef that was dedicated to chasing Marlin, dolphin fish and Tuna.  One Black Marlin estimated at around 150lb was tagged after a 30min fight, only to take off again.  It took another hour to gett he fish back to the boat for release and put up a good fight.

A nice dogtooth tuna estimated at around 60kg was lost at the boat when the hook straightened.  It was the anglers first time fishing 50lb stand up, and so she was a bit dissappointed.  She did however manage to boat another one the next day albeit only around half the size.

All five anglers (including 2 juniors) had a great time and returned to port with dolphin fish, tuna and mackerel in the freezers.

8 Dec 2005 Kanahoee back in home port

Kanahoee has arrived back in Townsville for some well deserved rest for the crew and a bit of maintenance.  Stay tuned for updates of trips in early 2006.

5 Dec 2005 Ribbons Tournament

Kanahoee wins the Ribbons ladies tournament. Champion boat over 7m, Champion boat overall, Champion out of town angler. A big effort to all involved in the landing of 18 mahi mahi and 1 wahoo, resulting in the third win for skipper and anglers in as many years. Well done to Jan, Nicki, Sandra, and Kathy.

24 Nov 2005 update

Have caught 6 marlin over the last 6 days, fishing was slow at the start of the trip so a couple of days where spent trolling lures out wide of the reef amongst the tuna longliners. We where rewarded with a big fish released in the dark that may well have been over the 1000lb mark and a 500 lb fish the next day. We are now fishing the Lindon bank for a couple of bites per day.

Fishing three american clients in the past week has resulted in the release of 8 black marlin and one lure caught black unfortunatly did not survive but weighed in at 880 pd.

8 Nov 2005 Update

We havee been having trouble updating the website, but the problems look like they have been ironed out so here is the long overdue update.

Last week Greg and Jan Gilbert were on board with their two children.  Greg tagged a nice 500lb fish on 80lb standup and Simon and Nikki both caught their first ever Marlin, with Nikki's going a healthy 600lb.

Prior to the Gilbert clan , Jay and Candace Meyer were over from the United States and caught 3 fish over 700lb.

Currently Kanahoee is fishing No 5 Ribbon Reef and tagged 5 on Sunday and  4 on Monday.

8 Oct 2005 Heavy Tackle Update

The Kanahoee fished from cairns to Lizard Island this week catching 6 black marlin. The largest being a very nice fish estimated at 950 lb caught of ribbon reef no:10 by John Clarke.Lizard Island tournament this week.

Kanahoee takes first place in the innisfail light tackle tournament with a double of sailfish tagged on day one.

16 Sep 2005 Port Hinchinbrook Big Fish Tournament

Kanahoee places second at Port Hinchinbrook tournament. With three sails tagged and released on day two. One after an epic battle lasting 5hrs. $7000:00 won in prize money.
