Heavy Tackle Marlin FishingAustralian Marlin Fishing provides heavy tackle game fishing charters all year round.  Species targetted include black marlin, blue marlin, broadbill swordfish and monster dogtooth tuna.  For speices such as black marlin,  the period September to December is typically spent fishing the northern sections of the Great Barrier Reef - Trips can be conducted from Townsville, Cairns, Port Douglas, Cooktown or Lizard Island. At certain times of the year “Kanahoee” can travel as far south as the Gold Coast for Medium and Heavy Tackle charters.   

When can I go Heavy Tackle Fishing

Heavy tackle fishing is available all year round with options for chasing Giant (over 1000lb) Black Marlin and Giant Blue Marlin (over 1000lb) on extended trips into the Coral Sea.  Heavy tackle fishing for World Record tuna is also available all year round.  If you specifically want to catch a massive black marlin (i.e. one of the Giant 1000lb Black Marlin) then the best fishing times are between September and December.  

Light Tackle / Fly Fishing & Juniors / Smallfry

Light tackle fishing is available all year round.  Anglers from the highyl experienced to the novice can take part in some fantastic fishing no the Great Barrier Reef.  Alternatively fish world renowned Cape Bowling Green, only 40nm from Townsville, for Sailfish and juvenile Black Marlin. This area has produced many ultra light tackle and fly fishing records.  The crew of Kanahoee specialise in techniques such as switch baiting and teasing specifically for highly visual fishing such as fly-fishing or for photography/video capture.

Light tackle fishing on the Great Barrier Reef can yield Sailfish Black Marlin, Spanish Mackerel, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Yellowfin Tuna, Cobia, Dogtooth Tuna, Giant Trevally and many more pelagic species.

World Records - Kanahoee is fully fitted with some of the most modern tackle available to fish all  IGFA classs.  Some species to target include: Black Marlin; Blue Marlin; Dogtooth Tuna; Narrow Barred Mackerel; Queenfish; Wahoo; etc.
